Dutch Update

Chantysha Netteb and Eythora Thorsdottir recently competed at a national competition. I rave about Eythora all the time because she is a Soviet gymnast reborn, but I'm also excited to see Chantysha, who's very different but very promising all the same. I'm delighted to see Eythora nailing her beautiful triple turn combination, and as always having a gorgeous Onodi and sheep jump. Wondering if her coaches also trained the great turner Sanne Wevers? Hopefully her consistency can improve on this event. A pity she has dumped her beautiful 'Mostepanova extension' press to handstand to a really boring mount but if it preserves energy then that's fine. On floor, her first pass has upgraded to a double pike. She is getting enormous height on that and given that she's grown, she looks well capable of more difficulty there. Likewise, her other passes seem a little easy for her. New music! On facebook the music doesn't cut out like that but this video says 'music falls halfway' so I'm not sure if it did in reality. If it did, awesome because she's not bothered at all. Vault remains the same..maybe she can do a DTY?..and I can't find bars, if she did them. In general, her choreography on beam and floor is sassier but still beautiful. Excellent.

Chantysha is a great contrast to her teammate. Great fierceness and attack in her beam, and pretty nice difficulty there. Love the mount too. On floor her difficulty is also pretty modest, I expect her to be throwing full-ins! Certainly ripe for more upgrades. Nice work though, I like how both girls seem equally comfortable with front and back tumbling. Bars are not her forté, she does manage a nice swing but she exhibits plenty of form issues and very weird kip angles like Maroney. Still, she could be a very nice three-eventer, I'd love to see her develop on vault and floor in particular. As for vault, her difficulty there is 5.0 and 5.3. It's very easy for her, she really floats through the air. Different strengths and qualities, but two gymnasts with oodles of potential who can hopefully break out onto the world scene. Chantysha is now senior while Eythora has another year as a junior left. Chantysha is one of ten fighting for a Euros spot, though very likely to get one especially as one of the certainties, Celine Van Gerner is not in the running. Both girls train at the same gym, Bato-Pax Gymnastics, who enjoyed seeing Eythora as my 2012 routine of the year :)

Videos after the jump..

  1. I watched Eythoras fx from junior euros AA last year and wow. So clean and precise. Beautiful execution and such confidence. This girl has sold the routine and appeared to enjoy it. When does she turn senior?

    1. 2014. I think she can upgrade quite substantially on floor..not just tumbles, but dance elements as she has a lot of control on turns. Beam is sadly headcasey for her, hoping she can nail her acro series at junior Euros again, but the rest of her routine is much more solid than the ones at Euros.

  2. It makes me so happy to see emerging gymnastics programs, especially for the "flavor" it adds to the sport. Variety is always preferable, as long as good technique is an ingredient!

    1. Yeah, they had a very good effort around 2002 or so, hope they can do so again. Italy are another, though stronger. Will do a post on them after their comp this weekend- Italy Serie A- starring Enus Mariani, Elisa Meneghini, Serena Bugani, Tea Ugrin, Chiara Gandolfi, Elisabetta Preziosa, Vanessa Ferrari, Georgia Campana, Carlotta Ferlito and.....Anna Pavlova! Can;t wait to see how they're shaping up for this year.

  3. Chantysha seems to be excel at front tumbling on beam, so maybe she can add the combination which Livchikova did to her routine. So is her FX. She is talented and I think she can be a gymnast with grace and power. Hope her upgrade on vault is good and put her in EF :)

"......and very weird kip angles like Maroney"
I couldn't understand what you mean :-/ (due to my poor English haha)
BTW, I'm always delighted to see Maroney on UB and BB and FX even if those aren't outstanding from others maybe just because of her beautiful body line and toepoint haha.

I just got the news that we can watch Euros live broadcasting on UEG.
UEG is GREAT (Compared to FIG :P)

    1. Yes, I'm impressed with her difficulty on beam. Floor is crying out for upgrades, but I like when gymnasts are paced well.

Haha, well just watch Maroney on bars and then anyone else. Maroney's kips are really strange, she kips much later than everyone else, so much so that I always think she's messed up and will have to jump off...but she's fine. Essentially, she's much further forward in her swing before she kips, and her back is at much more of an angle.

YES me too. Her beam is really nice and she hits connections. The slightly bent legs in her layout-stepouts aren't great, but everyone in the 80's pretty mucg had that too except the Chinese of course. Which reminds me, if you still live in China are you planning on attending the 2014 Youth Olympic Games or Worlds? Nanjing and Nanning respectively.

I KNOW I'm so excited!!! :D Moscow is only 4 hours ahead of me at the moment, so that's fine. I used it to watch replays of Olympics.

    2. I live in Taiwan and I'll probably go to Nanning.I really want to watch both of the games live, but I won't have much free time and money to do so, it is cheapest for me to attend major comps though.

    3. Ah right. Yeah, I didn't have the money for London and Rio is out of my league. So I'm focusing on the 2 worlds very near me, Antwerp and Glasgow.

  4. Eythora and Sanne Wevers have different coaches.. ;-) And Chantysha already had an double arabian on floor last year, so she'll be adding that later in the year. I've recently seen videos off Eythora throwing double layouts and a full-in in the pit, so hopefully she'll get them very soon! Very prpmising Dutch juniors indeed!!

    1. Yes I discovered that they are from different gyms after I wrote it, but thank you. It's good to know what they have in training, even though there's no need to go all-out yet at all. I wish I had as much access to what all gymnasts and juniors do in training outside of those in the US! Thanks for the information :)

  6. I filmed those video’s u used here and yes, her music stops after like 15 seconds.. Too bad because she has an awesome new floor routine. A lot of little movements on the details of the music are so funny and cool, you have to see it in person!
Eythora and Chantysha are both working on upgrades. For Eythora the full in (piked) and double layout and she also performed a beautiful bhs bhs layout on beam on national training camp. In training she also showed a khorkina on bars and a double twisted yurchenko vault.
Chantysha showed a part of a what seems likely to be a new bars routine in the future. Front giant into chorkina into a kip cast to handstand directly into a free hip tkachev (hindorff). In summer training she also showed some planned second vaults tsuk 1 ½ and front handspring pike 1/2. Not sure which one she will choose. She also performed a front handspring front tuck on beam. That’s an interesting combination I think!
Another junior of Pax Bato (the gymnastics club they train at) Sanna Overbeek recently did a double layout of bars and first year junior Dyonnailys Supriana did a muchina dismount of bars, a double Arabian on floor and two tkachevs in a row with only a kip cast handstand in between.

They also have some amazing young talents born in 2000 in the names of Noa Klaver and Kirsten Polderman. So in my opinion, this gymnastics club is progressing very well!

    1. I hope to see it in person as I'm going to Glasgow worlds! And I hope to see Chantysha at Antwerp. You're the second person to confirm Eythora's floor upgrades, which sound awesome! Especially with her form. Thanks for that and for filming these great videos. Amazing that Eythora is completely unfazed by that, you wouldn't be able to tell if it was muted from the start. I'm really liking the sound of these upgrades, though also glad they are not throwing them too early unneccessarily. And front handspring front tuck sounds amazing, similar to Livchikova's though I'd have to check that. It's great to see originality on beam.

A Mukhina dismount..the hecht front tuck off low bar? I sooo hope she keeps that, that's incredible. I'll keep these girls on my radar, thanks for your great information! :)

  7. No, not that one! Just the ordinary full twisting double tuck If it was the hechtfront tuck it would have been sooo different and cool!

    1. Haha oh right, it's just the words Mukhina dismount can't mean anything else to me. I did stop to think that the FIG often to not distinguish between high and low bar dismounts so I doubt it's a D...
