Classics posts in the post

I am still blindsided by Simone's floor and need some time to absorb everything else :D Nah, but I'm working in my old job today as I am too nice to say no. Tomorrow it is!

  1. Do you think she'll switch the double layout or the full-in dismout for the 5/2 punch 1/1 pass? Right now she's counting a switch leap (B) element for 6.5.

    1. Would that be in an upgrade? DLO is F, I'd say she'll keep it and possibly leap out of it. She has too much to work with for 4 passes...she has trained beautiful Dos Santos' in the past too. Last pass piked full in is probably best. I think they'll work on switching that for something harder though, that B.

    2. Right now she counts four acrobatic (H, G, F, E - insanity right there) and four dance (D, D, D, B.. but the 1/1 switch could be downgraded). Adding the D+C acrobatic pass gets 0.2 CV, so D + 0.2 CV = an F skill, the C skill replaces the B skill. So +0.1 total, if she replaces the final pass +0.2 total.

Her current skills look so easy, I wonder if she may just keep them to have a higher E score. Either way she looks so good. Her bars were well done for what she presented as well. I'm wondering if she will bother increasing her bar work as well.

  2. Is it me or was Simone over scored everywhere except maybe vault. I believe she deserved the win but not by that much. Maggie Nichols was kind of surprising. Rachel was amazing for her lack of experience she said in an interview that she held back on vault. Marta even said she would be a great team member. Does Martas comment state that she is more apart of worlds team than people think? Is Maggie Nichols in the mix? Can Kyla beat Simone? Can anyone best Simone and if so, who?

    1. Nichols has been really consistent. I hope she is rewarded for it - she was losing to Ernst in 2013 and recently at Jeselo - so perhaps Ernst can still beat her at nationals?

Nichols' strength is her consistency, she could be the lead off gymnast in team qualification, building everyone's confidence. She could also be used on floor for a respectable 14.1-14.6 score. She is way more dependable than Ernst, but without a stand out event I'm not sure how she would contribute to a team final.

I see Gowey on the team, if not for attempting to qualify in the AA, at least to contribute vault and beam. Her useful beam frees relieves some tension on the US team to find a bars/beam girl. Now they could just take 1 or 2 bars girls and save Biles' shoulder some.

    2. I don't think she was overscored on floor or vault. that floor routine was insane. amazing difficulty, stunning execution and the choreography is spot on for her is not force or acted, well deserve score for me. that bars routine is not going to score well if she performs it like that at worlds. it was off from the beginning, it looked muscle through and nervy i will habe giving it a 1400 quite frankly. her beam routine also needs to be more fluid and secure. but overall she looks great and ready.
Over all quite frankly only Kyla and Gowey look like they are in the right track. everyone else was a completely inconsistent and underwhelming in terms of USA standard. but the most underwhelming was Skinner and Dowell. what in the hell happen i have no idea, is quite scary. its like they were not prepared mentally or physically.

    3. I'm the most amateur of gym fans so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I don't understand the excitement over Rachel Gowey at allllll. She seems like she could contribute to a team maybe slightly better than any of the second-tier seniors, but I thought her floor form was messy and her dance unappealing (though graceful), and her vault looked sketchy in her block, which doesn't seem promising given past Chow gymnasts' subpar blocks. And her beam and bars seemed lackluster as well, and tentatively executed. I didn't see anything that I thought was amazing, and as an AA she looks WAY behind Ross to me.

But it's just Classics. Maybe Gowey will come out in full force for Visas and I'll get it. Would like to see Skinner and Dowell at the tops of their games too, and also my personal favorite forgotten senior Nica, although I don't think she's much in the mix for Worlds at this point.

    4. Gowey to me has beautiful lines, great form, and a unique elegance. i think her gymnastic is more fluid and organic than Kyla who poses and acts artistically. i love her floor routine is very classical ballet but not forced, just take that horrible 3.5 twist out and add a different pass and to me she has a great floor routine. her beam routine is great and choreographed real well with good difficulty, and her bar routine is good also, a little of bends hips in her handstand but it can be fix is just polishing that she needs. that amanar needs to go, she does not have the power to pull it off with that awful block like Shawn and Gabby

    5. Rachel right now is on the rise she is most definitely a great contribution to the team and her block with the amanar looks to me like maybe chow trains it like that. I don't think she should get rid of it though but it needs help she pulled the vault off many times before and she said she was nervous and held back so I think that experience will take her a long way..u can say whatever u want about Gabby and Shawn's vault but there vaults worked wonders for them at the Olympic Games and can do the same for Rachel at worlds and Rio in 2016

  3. I wouldn't say that. She wasn't really overscored when you count in the stick bonuses for floor and bars. Other than that her scores were slightly high, but still within the variance you'll get based on the judge, place in line up, etc...
