I'm back!

It's such a relief now my sister's wedding is over- free-time wise that is. Not only was I part of the bridal party I- get this- volunteered to make her cake despite never having made a wedding cake before, or indeed ever icing any cake at all before. Youtube was extremely informative and after 1 or 2 practice runs I was (overly) confident it would all work out. Hahaha. I almost kicked it down the garden amidst the stress and frustration two days before the wedding. Somehow (well, I did dump a tier) it actually worked out! Good old ribbon-around-the-base trick.

Ta-dah!

Much too lazy to edit out the facebook URL. Anyway, hurray but never again. Unbelievably stressful and time consuming.

Moving on - I kept up with gym news but was unable to properly follow actual competitions. Even Pan Ams passed me by in a tired daze of recovery. On the plus side, the time to Glasgow which I am attending is really flying by! I'm really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things watching competition-wise and actually blogging, with Asian Championships and US Classics looming. Speaking of Glasgow - seeing as the last day of competition in Glasgow is falling on Hallowe'en, myself and my boyfriend will be dressing up for the arena. As 70's Nadia and Bela naturally. Feel free to say hello!

70's malnourished Nadia but 90's Bela for that white-haired roguish recognisability, obviously.

  2. Can we talk about Kyla's alleged 6.9 bars routine? I hope that's true because if she does have it there is no way she wont be the number 2 girl in the us... baring injury of course.

  3. 6.9?! Seriously??! Please post link.... I ll believe it when I see it... kyla is not known for a lot of upgrades so I hv a hard time believing that... I would believe in 6.6 but 6.9?

  4. Allegedly, Kyla has her in bar skills back so that's 6.6 because in Jesolo she connected her pack to van leewen(spelling?) and she has a video on youtube where she does a chow+bhardwaj combination so 6.9. In the video she said she wanted to do it this year. People on tumblr don't believe she has her in bars back tho. My dream bars routine from Kyla would be: Reverse straddler full+tkatchev+bhardwaj; in bar full+komova II+pack+van leewen; dismount = 7.0

  5. well, I still have to see it to believe it.... Knowing Kyla, she just doesn't upgrade all at once very significantly.... gotta see classic and pg

  6. I'm delighted that she's upgrading her bars...hopefully we'll see it at Nationals if not Classics. She needs upgrades to contend for the number 2 AA spot properly.

  7. Apparently, along with her bars upgrades, Kyla also has a front tuck with a half twist on beam and a double layout and whip into arabian on floor. So, her d scores are 5.8, 6.6/6.9, 6.3, and 6.0. I really hope that these info is true because this would make Kyla unbeatable in the US with the exception of Simone.

    1. I am glad that she is upgrading as she should be. And as much as I am so much wanting, it's been a long time that we see an international fx score 14.5+ for her. That is really her weak event, but given that we have many strong fx workers that's already there she wont be needed but it would be so nice to know that if needed a score of 14.5+ is obtainable consistently....

    2. Is there any video of her DLO on floor? Idk, that doesn't seem too likely to me. She struggles with endurance and a DLO is a tough skill, especially for someone as tall as Kyla. She switched to a double front dismount from a DLO on UB because she was struggling to get the DLO around. There are many more gymnasts who can do a DLO dismount on UB than gymnasts that can do DLO on floor in their routines. Admittedly, I'm not a gymnast, but that suggests to me that a DLO off UB is easier than a DLO on floor. If Kyla could no longer do a DLO off bars, it just seems very unlikely to me that she is somehow able to do a DLO on floor.

  8. It looks like Kyla hasn't gotten her in bars back and is struggling on her dismount. Her bhardwaj is a little bit messy so I am worried about her spot on the AA. Although, I am still hopeful that she pulls in together during competition.
